Psychosocial aspects of diabetes technology
2020
Aim To identify key psychosocial research in the domain of diabetes technology. Results Four trajectories of psychosocial diabetes technology research are identified that characterize research over the past 25 years. Key evidence is reviewed on psychosocial outcomes of technology use as well as psychosocial barriers and facilitating conditions of diabetes technology uptake. Psychosocial interventions that address modifiable barriers and psychosocial factors have proven to be effective in improving glycaemic and self-reported outcomes in diabetes technology users. Conclusions Psychosocial diabetes technology research is essential for designing interventions and education programmes targeting…

Examining bi-directionality between Fear of Missing Out and problematic smartphone use. A two-wave panel study among adolescents.
2020
Abstract Background In recent years, the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) construct has been the object of growing attention in digital technology research with previous studies finding support for the relationship between FoMO and problematic smartphone use (PSU) among adolescents and young adults. However, no previous studies clarified the causal link between FoMO and PSU using a longitudinal design. Methods An auto-regressive, cross-lagged panel design was tested by using a longitudinal dataset with two waves of data collection (T0 and T1, one year apart). Participants included two hundred and forty-two adolescents (109 males and 133 females), with a mean age of 14.16 years, who filled out the…
Performance analysis of research spin-offs in the Spanish biotechnology industry
2012
Abstract This study examines whether the performance of biotechnology research spin-offs in Spain differs from non spin-off firms, using empirically-based fieldwork over a 5-year period and standard dichotomous regression analysis on 7-year data. Biotechnology research spin-offs in Spain are not necessarily located in core regions, are smaller in size and tend to grow faster in terms of turnover. Corporate groups seldom control them but venture capitalists have a greater tendency to acquire shareholdings in them. Compared to non spin-off firms, research spin-off firms face more serious and more numerous challenges and disadvantages. Only two advantages are apparent: their capacity to attrac…
Current research in biotechnology: Exploring the biotech forefront
2019
Abstract Biotechnology is an evolving research field that covers a broad range of topics. Here we aimed to evaluate the latest research literature, to identify prominent research themes, major contributors in terms of institutions, countries/regions, and journals. The Web of Science Core Collection online database was searched to retrieve biotechnology articles published since 2017. In total, 12,351 publications were identified and analyzed. Over 8500 institutions contributed to these biotechnology publications, with the top 5 most productive ones scattered over France, China, the United States of America, Spain, and Brazil. Over 140 countries/regions contributed to the biotechnology resear…
Eduardo Primo Yúfera, founder of Revista de Agroquímica y Tecnología de Alimentos and pioneer on food science and technology research in Spain.
2011
Eduardo Primo Yúfera was the founder and director of the Instituto de Agroquímica y Tecnología de Alimentos (IATA, 1957-1974) until he was appointed president of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). His aim to publicize food science led him to create the Revista de Agroquímica y Tecnología de Alimentos in 1961, the forerunner of this journal, Food Science and Technology International, which he directed until 1977. Of his scientific output, 50% has been published in this journal. He is considered to be the promoter and exponent of Food Science and Technology and Chemical Ecology in Spain as well as the instigator of the country's innovation model (R&D and innovati…
